Jota spoke to TNT Sports after the match in the Allianz Arena and declared that he was proud of what his teammates’ had accomplished this year in European football…

The Celtic winger was adamant that whilst it was gutting to go out the way we did, going toe-to-toe with Bayern Munich was something we could all be pleased with.

Bayern Munich don’t often lose at home and their record of dropping anything at home is sketchy, to say the least. For sure, they are as formidable a European force as anything out there on home soil and when they left Celtic Park having won the game 2-1, not many have the Bhoys a chance heading into that second-leg of our knockout rounds play-off.

‘On the counter-attack we always managed to create opportunities’

However, our Superstar from Portugal insisted we had a game plan and executed it to absolute perfection. “We had a well-defined strategy. We knew that Bayern would have much more possession, but on the counter-attack we always managed to create opportunities and that was the case,” he said afterwards. But then with the last play, they managed to win the game and we couldn’t take it to extra time. That regret remains, but it must be highlighted that the group played well and I’m very proud of what we did.”

‘This Celtic team is going forward’

The man who returned from Ligue 1 a few weeks ago to rekindle his love affair with the Hoops, reckons that this is just the beginning of a burgeoning team that can really blossom in the future. He said: “This Celtic team is going forward with everything and we have a very well-defined philosophy. We came here to fight for the result. We played in an aggressive and good way so that all the fans feel attracted to our football. The result went to Bayern, but we got here thanks to our quality and effort.”

‘Since Celtic couldn’t get through to the next round, let Benfica win it’

The interviewer, who conducted the interview in Portuguese, then cheekily asked if he wanted Benfica to go all the way in the competition, now that Celtic were out, after they beat Monaco in the play-off round. He replied: “Champions? Benfica is my favourite club and I’m always rooting for them too. Since Celtic couldn’t get through to the next round, let Benfica win it.”
