Illan Meslier had initially given the Blades a 1-0 lead through an own goal, but three second half goals secured victory for Daniel Farke’s side.

The Whites once again popped up with a late strike to seal all three points, with Ao Tanaka scoring in the 89th minute to give Leeds the lead, before Joel Piroe added some shine to the score line almost immediately following the restart.

The victory has given the club a five point lead at the top of the Championship table, while also moving back to seven clear of third place Burnley.

Responding to footage of Leeds players celebrating the win on Monday night by going up to Dallas, who was a pundit for Sky Sports, the former Leeds star praised his old teammates.

He highlighted their relentlessness, having come out on top in a match contested by two of the best teams in the division.

“A very nice bunch of lads indeed,” wrote Dallas, via his Twitter account.

“In all seriousness though, a fantastic game of football from two top teams.

Leeds have been and continue to be relentless.”

Leeds United recent form

Leeds’ victory on Monday night means they have now won five in a row in the league, a run of form that has given them one foot back in the Premier League.

This run also includes a 2-1 win over Sunderland last week, a game in which Farke’s side also scored a late winner over a promotion rival.

These goals could prove the turning point in their campaign, giving the club a comfortable position in the table as we approach March.

Next up for Leeds is a home clash against West Brom on Saturday in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Sheffield United win gives Leeds huge advantage in title race

Leeds have now played all three of Burnley, Sunderland and Sheffield United for a second time and they lead their nearest rivals by five points.

This advantage should prove enough going into the final 12 games, although nothing is certain just yet of course.

Their relentlessness has been key during this run-in, with yet another late goal sealing all three points for the team.

Being able to keep going to the very end of big games like that is a huge difference-maker, and shows how much this team believes in Farke’s message that they will keep working for him right to the end of every match.
