It feels like an age since Gent sacked Wouter Vrancken. The former Mechelen and Genk man was given his marching orders by the Buffaloes, but since then no new man has come in to replace him. Instead, the club have stuck with interim head coach Danijel Milicevic. The Bosnian has hardly set the world alight since coming in, and as time goes on it is beginning to feel like Gent are planning to just wait till the end of the season to grab their new head coach.
At least on the pitch they have found a solution to their striking woes. Dante Vanzeir, given his history in the league, was expected to be the solution. Thankfully for Gent, he has proven to be. The striker helped himself to two from the spot at the weekend to make it three goals in four games since joining. That helped the side to a 3-2 win over Beerschot, hardly a convincing one over the basement side.
None of this is the fault of Milicevic. The side were underperforming before he was given the task of trying to turn things around. However, it looks like the side should just about qualify for the top six. If they can manage that, they at least have a shot at European football next season. If they wait till the summer to appoint a new head coach that will prove more attractive to potential candidates.
