Brentford, chasing a spot in Europe, made it four Premier League victories in a row with a win over already relegated Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday.

The decisive goal came from the visitors' very first effort, as Kevin Schade - who netted twice in last week's thrilling 4-3 triumph over Manchester United - rose to meet Bryan Mbeumo’s corner with a looping header into the far side of the net.

Mikkel Damsgaard came close to doubling the lead in first-half stoppage time, pulling a low shot just wide, while Ipswich keeper Alex Palmer produced solid saves to deny Yoane Wissa and Schade in the second period as Brentford looked to extend their lead.

Ipswich, who earned a confidence-lifting draw at Everton the previous weekend, showed plenty of fight but struggled to create clear chances. Their only effort on target before injury time came in the opening minutes, when Liam Delap’s header was safely held.

George Hirst couldn’t take advantage of a slip by Sepp van den Berg, and Omari Hutchinson hit the outside of the post as the hosts pushed forward late in the game, but Brentford stood firm.

This marks Brentford’s longest top-flight winning streak since 1939, moving them up to eighth in the standings, while Ipswich remain in 18th - just one point and one spot above Leicester.
