It’ll come as no surprise to anybody to learn that Viktor Gyokeres is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after stars in Europe.

Hailed by The Guardian as ‘Europe’s next elite-level striker’, the Sporting Lisbon talisman is taking each competition by storm with no sweat off his back since the term got underway.

It’s unprecedented to consider that Gyokeres could outdo his record of 58 goal contributions (43 goals and 15 assists) in 50 matches across 2023/2024. Yet here he is, on course to obliterate such a feat if his form continues the way it’s begun.

The 26-year-old has fired home a remarkable 24 goals in 19 appearances thus far while also contributing another four assists to take his creativity up to another level. His most recent outing in Europe stole the headlines in both Portugal and England the following morning after Gyokeres hammered three past Manchester City to seal their 4-1 win in Ruben Amorim’s final home game.

Such unrelenting form only continued over to the international stage, where he added a further five goals to his tally for the season in Sweden’s Nations League double-header – four of which came in the 89 minutes he played against Azerbaijan on November 19.

Alas, he’s so good that all the scouts are wanting a closer look at him in action. That’s why five top clubs, consisting of United, City, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, are sending their chiefs out to watch Sporting’s Champions League clash at home to Arsenal tomorrow night.

Sporting, thanks to Amorim, are unbeaten in the competition thus far. They sit second-placed in the new-look rankings after winning three of their opening four matches, drawing once in the process. Unsurprisingly, Gyokeres ranks joint-first in the top goalscorer standings with five, the same as Raphinha, Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski.

United’s new head coach has already ruled out a January pursuit of the unstoppable attacker out of respect for his former club, but that won’t stop him from using his ties to try and hash out a deal come next summer.
