Defender Pavard was in the Inter starting eleven for this evening’s Champions League match against Leipzig.

The former Bayern Munich and Stuttgart defender started on the right of Inter’s back three.

Pavard had sat out Inter’s Serie A clash with Hellas Verona over the weekend. He neither appeared as a starter or as a substitute during the 5-0 win.

Therefore, it had always seemed fairly clear that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi was keeping Pavard fresh for this evening’s Champions League match.

Pavard had been part of the France squad during the international break.

Pavard played from the first minute against Leipzig. And the 29-year-old played almost the entirety of the first half of the match.

However, in the 43rd minute of the first half, Pavard went down holding his leg.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was forced into making a substitution.

Germany Under-21 international Yann Bisseck came on to replace Pavard. He then played out the remainder of the first half and the entirety of the second half.

Bisseck had been the player who started for Inter against Verona on Saturday. He had started that match in Pavard’s usual right-sided centre-back role.

Now, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have to have a nervous wait to determine Pavard’s condition.

Inzaghi is already dealing with one notable absence in defense. Francesco Acerbi had picked up a thigh problem against Verona over the weekend.

And according to FCIN, Pavard has also picked up a thigh problem.

Early indications are that it could be a thigh strain for the 29-year-old.

However, Pavard will require further tests to determine the seriousness of the problem as well as a timeline for him to recover and return to the pitch.
