Just last season, Ortwin De Wolf was playing second division football in Belgium. Fast forward a few months and his transfer to KV Mechelen has certainly paid off. The sides number one has just received a first senior call up to the Belgian national team. Due to an injury to Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels, De Wolf will get his chance to experience what it is like to be part of the Red Devils during the upcoming Nations League matches.
De Wolf has become Mechelen’s number one this season after long serving goalkeeper Gaëtan Coucke left the club when his contract came to an end. Coucke moved to Saudi Arabia, while Mechelen made a move for then Zulte Waregem goalkeeper De Wolf. The 27-year=old has played 10 matches this season and kept four clean sheets. The goalkeeper started his professional career with Lokeren before joining Eupen and eventually Antwerp. He spent the last few months of the 2023/2024 season with Zulte Waregem where he made 16 appearances in the Belgian second tier. He has been capped at U21 level before.
Belgium are set to face Italy and France in the Nations League over the next week.
