The Clarets have now accumulated 10 successive clean sheets in the second tier
Burnley minority investor and NFL icon, JJ Watt issued his reaction to the Clarets' record-breaking success over Hull City at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.
Scott Parker's outfit have been the subject of criticism from outsiders for their approach to games in the promotion race, having an astonishing defensive solidity within their performances, but lacking firepower in comparison to their promotion rivals Leeds United, Sheffield United and Sunderland.
However, this midweek encounter saw them dominate Ruben Selles' relegation-threatened Tigers - particularly in the first 45 minutes - with goals coming after two minutes through left-back Bashir Humphreys and Zian Flemming's seventh Championship goal of the season.
And, whilst the Clarets may have felt slightly frustrated that the scoreline remained at a two-goal margin, there was further cause to celebrate beyond another three points, with the club hitting a landmark defensive milestone.
Ironically, Burnley's most dominant attacking display at Turf Moor for quite some time coincided with the fact that they have become the first side in second tier history to record 10 consecutive clean sheets.
The defensive unit which is so often James Trafford, Connor Roberts, Maxime Esteve, CJ Egan-Riley and the aforementioned Humphreys have drawn praise several times for their performances, and they gained further recognition on Wednesday despite rarely being called into action by Hull's attack.
This particular run began on Boxing Day in a crucial 2-0 victory against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, with Kwadwo Baah of Watford the last man to breach the East Lancashire club's rearguard with his 80th-minute consolation on December 21st.
Burnley's overall prowess at the back has been well-documented, as they have conceded just nine times across the first 32 second tier outings, which trumps the amount of concessions given by Chelsea's 2004/05 Premier League-winning side under José Mourinho at this stage of the season - although the Blues didn't reach this number of games until April 2005.
Trafford's antics between the sticks have also become somewhat of a running joke between him and the former Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals quarterback, with the former Manchester City man asking the 35-year-old if he would come out of retirement and perform for his favourite NFL side, Cincinatti Bengals.
Watt then agreed, on the basis that the England international didn't concede from December 28th until the final day of the season.
And, after breaking a record on Tuesday night, the American took to his Instagram story to congratulate the Clarets for their efforts.
"Championship record. 10 Clean Sheets... Insane," he said.
The former Fulham and AFC Bournemouth boss has often remained defiant in response to his side's critics this season, but speaking to the media after Wednesday's dominant success, it didn't take long for the 44-year-old to praise his defence - in particular those who are still in the infancies of their careers.
“It is remarkable and it is pretty special. We take immense pride in this achievement, which reflects not just on our backline, but on the entire squad's effort. What we are currently doing defensively is astonishing," Parker said.
“This is CJ Egan-Riley’s first full season, Lucas Pires has transitioned from Spain, and Bash Humphreys has gained experience at Swansea. The levels they are reaching now is truly remarkable," he said.
Burnley's latest success sees them keep pace with Leeds United and Sheffield United, who were also victorious in the week over Watford and Middlesbrough.
The next assignment for the third-place side is a Lancashire Derby at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon, as they look to extend their recent run of strong results against Preston North End, losing just once against the Lilywhites in their last eight encounters.
