While Manchester United are now unable to facilitate any further signings until the summer, they can still offload players in countries where the window is open.
Clubs in Turkey, for example, have until next Tuesday to finalise all their winter business and bolster their squads for the remainder of the term.
It’s allowed former Red Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was appointed head coach of Besiktas last month, the chance to acquire at least some signings of his choosing after taking over the position mid-season.
The ex-frontman has opted against utilising his United contacts to reunite with any of the players he coached during his almost three-year reign at Old Trafford, and, instead, he’s said to be targeting out-of-favour veteran Casemiro.

Casemiro put pen to paper on a four-year (plus the option of an additional season) deal in 2022 – nine months after Solskjaer was relieved of his duties and succeeded by Erik ten Hag. Then, after playing an integral role throughout his maiden term in M16, his age started to catch up with him.
In his sophomore campaign, the five-time Champions League winner began committing a host of costly errors due to him being simply unable to match the pace and demands of England’s top flight. He slowly fell out of favour under Ten Hag and has been utilised sparingly since Ruben Amorim took charge.
Now, according to A Spor relayed by Turkish Football, Besiktas have ‘intensified their efforts’ to sign the out-of-favour Casemiro in the coming days in a move that would see United part ways with their highest earner – having just got rid of their second-highest following Marcus Rashford’s switch to Aston Villa.
It remains to be seen what kind of fee the Reds will demand for the 32-year-old – especially given that he reportedly turned down an approach from Roma in January over their low salary proposal.
