Inter have been ranked as the top team in the world along with Liverpool according to Opta, which compiled the chart based on the ELO algorithm that analyzed the results of over 2.5M matches since 1990 to provide their valuation on teams from every league, Sky informs.
The Nerazzurri trounced Hellas Verona in the most recent round, scoring five goals in the first half. They haven’t lost since the Derby with Milan back in late September, notching nine and two draws, versus Juventus and Napoli, afterward.
Inter and Liverpool scored 100 points, 0.04 better than Manchester City. Real Madrid (98.7), Arsenal (98), Barcelona and PSG (97.7), Sporting CP (97.5), Bayern Munich (96.9), and Atalanta (96.8) complete the top ten.
As for the other Serie A teams, Juventus (95.4) sit in 12th position, right above Lazio (94.6), while Milan are 19th (93.3), Napoli 21st (93.1), Fiorentina 26th (92.6), Bologna 38th (90.6), and Roma 40th (90).
Simone Inzaghi commented on the Opta power rankings in the presser before facing RB Leipzig.
“I’m happy, but it’s just stats. We work to bring joy to the fans and the team and to win trophies.”
Unfortunately for their rivals, it took the Nerazzurri just a handful of rounds to find the right gear, and they’ll be mighty hard to beat if they drop points only in the most challenging clashes. Juventus might be too hurt already, Fiorentina and Lazio are nice stories but are unlikely to last for the whole season. Atalanta always run in a rut at some point, and we’ll see whether they’ll avoid that this year. The only real rival might turn out to be Napoli.
