Inter have joined the list of suitors for Gianluca Busio, who could have left last summer, like Tanner Tessmann did, but eventually decided to stay put and re-up his contract, removing the threat of a departure for free in June 2025.
According to La Stampa (via Tribuna), Oaktree wants the management to get younger at every position. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is 35 and tied to the Nerazzurri until 2026, but he’s not a lock to stay. Piotr Zielinski, who joined last summer, isn’t a spring chicken either.
Inter are scouring the market for midfielders and laid eyes on Busio. He’s been okay in his return to Serie A, scoring once his five appearances, despite his team’s struggles and an early injury. He had logged one goal and two assists in his first campaign in the Italian top flight in 2021/2022.
The 22-year-old stayed following the relegation and is coming off his best campaign yet. He was acquired from Sporting Kansas City for €6M back in the day. He has 14 caps with the USMNT and starred for the Olympic team last summer, which contributed to his decision not to pursue a transfer.
They’ll be busy in the transfer market in the next couple of windows if Oaktree really wants to rejuvenate the squad, as they have leaned heavily on veterans while not having much to spend. Their budget is also a question market. He’s a nice and modern box-to-box but will have to confirm himself this season to prove he could belong in a top team.
