Inter Expected to Stay the Course Between the Sticks

Inter have been linked to a few players in numerous roles ahead of a busy summer, but not new goalies, as they’ll most likely keep relying on the two already in the squad: Yann Sommer and Josep Martinez, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The Swiss shot-stopper is having another solid and blunder-free season. He has retired from international duties to focus on the Nerazzurri. His teammate has answered the bell when the starter went down with a thumb fracture.

Inter haven’t rotated Sommer and Martinez like other teams, as the latter has been a clear no.2. He might be given the spotlight in the Coppa Italia semifinals versus Milan. He will probably play more in 2025/2026. The management’s plan is still to have him as their top option once the veteran fades into the sunset, which would justify their €15M investment.

The Scudetto holders have the second-best defense in Serie A, having allowed 27 goals in 29 matches. They have conceded just twice in 12 Champions League and Coppa Italia fixtures combined. As for the future, they have been tepidly linked to Gianluigi Donnarumma, but more in the eventuality he becomes a free agent at the end of his contract in 2026.

Our Take on Inter, Sommer, and Martinez

They’d happily stay as is since they appear to be cooking up big and pricey moves in other roles. The Spaniard should have been trusted a little sooner, but he showed up when they  needed him to, which surely put the coach and the front office at ease. He would start for any side a notch below, but he might have become a tad too expensive for those now.
