Reigning Serie A champions Inter are ready to go to great lengths to keep hold of high-performing center-forward Marcus Thuram this summer. According to Thuram and Inter’s plan to keep him by canceling the 85 million clause | Gazzetta.itGazzetta dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi’s men intend to remove the release clause in the Frenchman’s contract by handing him a bumper new deal.

Thuram joined Inter from Borussia Monchengladbach as a free agent in the summer of 2023, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract. However, an affordable €85 million release clause has made him a viable target for several top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.

On the other hand, Inter are reluctant to lose their talismanic forward without a fight. After winning the Scudetto in his first season at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Thuram has established himself among fan favorites and one of Inter’s standout performers.

His current deal with Inter runs out in 2028. However, he’s the club’s fourth-highest earner behind Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella, and Lautaro Martinez. As such, the Nerazzurri are willing to make him the highest-paid star in order to convince him to sign a new contract.

Though Thuram has never expressed an ambition to leave, Inter fear a lucrative foreign advance could change his mind. With that in mind, Beppe Marotta may want to open talks with the player’s representatives sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi will likely field Thuram from the start when Inter take on Serie A basement boys Monza in a must-win home clash this evening. Joaquin Correa could partner the French star, with Lautaro dropping to the bench.
