Inter Milan managed to “cancel out” the disappointment of the Supercoppa Italiana against Venezia, with Matteo Darmian vital yet again.
This is the synopsis of the Nerazzurri’s first Serie A match of 2025 in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
It was certainly not easy for Inter to bounce back after the horror-show of the Supercoppa Italiana final.
The Nerazzurri did not just fail to win the Supercoppa for the fourth season in a row.
Inter threw away a 2-0 lead in the second half, going on to lose that final 3-2. And the fact that that defeat came against city rivals AC Milan was the bitterest pill to swallow.
Venezia were hardly going to just lay down for Inter as the Nerazzurri sought to get straight back to winning ways.
The Lagunari have no shortage of motivation considering that they’re in the thick of the relegation battle.
Therefore, it was the kind of high tempo match that Inter will have expected.
But the Nerazzurri just about held out in midfield and attack. They controlled the match when they needed to.
At the other end, Inter were lacking a bit of cutting edge in the penalty area.
However, it was defender Matteo Darmian, playing in the back three, who popped up with the goal.
The former Manchester United and Torino veteran has proven to be decisive for Inter on plenty of occasions in the past. And he proved to be exactly that once again.
