Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa says that he “felt” that he would get a goal against Hellas Verona.
Correa spoke to InterTV after the 5-0 Serie A win, via FCInterNews. He also said that he is “good friends” with teammate Marcus Thuram off the pitch.
Inter got a 5-0 win over Hellas Verona this evening to return to Serie A from the international break in emphatic style and go top of the league table for the next few hours at least.
It was a surprising match in many respects.
Not least for the fact that Joaquin Correa got his fist start of the season for the Nerazzurri.
The Argentine had been expected by many to leave Inter during the summer transfer window. However, he stuck around. And he has featured a few times from the bench this season.
However, this afternoon, it was more than just a cameo from Correa.
And the 30-year-old made the most of his chance in the Inter starting eleven. Correa scored Inter’s opener and also made two assists.
The Argentine former Lazio forward set up his strike partner Marcus Thuram, and then defender Yann Bisseck.
After this afternoon’s match, Correa said of his goal that “I felt it.”
“It had been a while since I’d scored,” the Argentine said. “And I’m happy I managed to do so.”
“The celebration was for my friends,” Correa added.
“When we see each other during the holidays we always do it when we play five-a-side football. I’m happy.”
Meanwhile, Correa gave his thoughts on his strike partner Thuram.
“Marcus is a great player,” said the Inter forward. “It’s easy to play with him.”
Correa called Thuram “a player who plays for the team.”
“He does everything to win. We’re good friends, and we have a good understanding.”
And Correa said of his playing time at Inter that “You grow with time, and you understand that you can’t always play.”
“May I’ve made mistakes in the past and seen everything negatively,” he admitted.
Correa said that “Today was important for me, and it means I can keep working calmly and think about the matches to come.”
