Sought-after Inter Milan megastar Marcus Thuram stays humble after being voted the GQ Man of the Year.
Speaking to the GQ magazine via FCInterNews, Thuram explained his decision to join the Nerazzurri on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
“Accepting the offer from Inter was an easy choice,” he admitted.
“Before coming to Milan, I watched my future teammates on television.
“I saw that they were a very strong team, they got to play in a Champions League final.
“And then there’s San Siro: having the opportunity to play in a stadium like this is really fantastic.
“I think it’s one of those things that all children dream of when they start playing football.
“San Siro gives me a boost and energy that I have never received in any other stadium in my entire career.”
Marcus Thuram highlighted the crucial factors for his noticeable rise at Giuseppe Meazza.
“My growth is a mix of many good things that have happened to me.
“I think the goal against Milan in the first leg of the derby was the beginning of everything.
“It was a special game, it was the beginning of the season, and people didn’t know me well yet.
“Scoring like that is as if he introduced me to the Inter fans.”
Thuram’s transition from the Bundesliga to Serie A has been smooth.
Indeed, he has quickly established himself as a senior star at Inter.
“By now, I know my teammates well,” the Frenchman stated.
“I have learned what it means to play in the Italian league, I know what coach Simone Inzaghi wants from me.
“Then winning the Scudetto gave me and us a lot of strength, we made a lot of sacrifices and we deserved to win it.
“But that victory was not the end of something. On the contrary, we can do even better, we have important goals.”
As for his personal growth, Thuram chooses to stay humble.
“I feel like a strong, technical player, who knows how to jump the man” He added. “But what makes me unique is the physicality.
“There are players who are very fast but not very strong. There are others who are strong but are not so fast. I have both of these two characteristics.
“And I know that they scare defenders. I can become even more number nine, even more center forward.
“I’m working on this, both on the pitch and in my head.
“I have to learn to play less to like myself, I want to be a real killer in front of goal.
“I think I haven’t done anything yet. I think I have to train a lot.
“But it’s absolutely not a problem because the truth is that I love football.
“I’m happy when I get up in the morning to go to Appiano Gentile, I’m happy when I enter a big stadium.
“I do the thing I love most in the world, this makes the difference.”
