Inter Milan have made clear to Roma that they want no more stalling on a deal for wingback Nicola Zalewski.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that Cristiano Biraghi is still the Nerazzurri’s backup target.
In the last few days of the January transfer window, Inter have set their sights on Roma wingback Nicola Zalewski.
The Poland international is the player that the Nerazzurri have lined up to replace Tajon Buchanan. Buchanan has joined Villarreal on loan for the second half of the season.
At 23 years of age, Inter see Zalewski as the right age profile to bolster their squad.
Moreover, the Roma wingback’s versatility is key. Like Buchanan, he can play on either flank, and is comfortable in both the attacking and defensive phases.
Zalewski’s contract with Roma is set to expire at the end of June.
Therefore, the Giallorossi have been hoping to offload the Polish international once and for all this month.

Roma had seemed to be close to an agreement on a deal for Zalewski with Marseille.
The French club were ready to offer around €5 million including add-ons.
However, with Inter coming forward with a strong interest, Zalewski has made clear that he wants the move to the Nerazzurri instead.
Inter want to sign Nicola Zalewski on loan, however. Then, there will be a purchase option in the deal.
For this to happen, though, Zalewski must first extend his contract with Roma.
At the moment, Inter are just waiting on that to happen, then they can get the deal over the lines.
However, the Nerazzurri have made clear to Roma that they won’t wait forever.
In the meantime, the Corriere report, Inter’s backup target is Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi.
Given that Biraghi is 32 years of age and cannot play on the right flank as Zalewski can, he is not the signing Inter would prefer.
However, Biraghi is out of the project at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. And if Inter cannot seal the deal for Zalewski, he would be their Plan B.
