Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni remains confident about the Nerazzurri’s season ahead despite the team’s draw with Genoa.

The 25-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews, following the 2-2 draw at the Marassi. He brushed off the result and spoke about the difficult summer preparations.

Inter have already slipped up in their Serie A title defense.

The Nerazzurri had seemed to be on course for three points after Marcus Thuram put them ahead in the 84th minute of the match.

However, a late sucker punch arrived in the form of a Genoa penalty after Yann Bisseck handled the ball inside the Inter area.

Former AC Milan and Crotone midfielder Junior Bisseck had his first effort from the spot saved by Yann Sommer. However, he tucked away the rebound to snatch a point for the hosts.

This leaves Inter already having some catching up to do potentially.

And the Nerazzurri hardly head into the new season with the kind of air of invincibility that they’ll have hoped to.

Inter Defender Alessandro Bastoni Brushes Off Genoa Draw: “I Remain Confident”

After the match, Bastoni admitted that “The errors we made are the kind that Inter normally don’t make.”

The Italian international argued that the results were the result of “a lack of physical sharpness.”

“And some tiredness. It’s been a tough summer.”

“But I’m 100% confident that we’ll rediscover the kind of form we had last season,” Bastoni declared.

“We struggled when we played here last season as well,” the Inter defender noted. Last season the Nerazzurri drew 1-1 with Genoa at the Marassi.

“They’re an organized team. Gilardino is a great coach, he makes the whole team play as a unit.”

“We managed to get the lead, but then we threw it away.”

“We gave away two goals that normally we don’t concede,” Bastoni rued.

“But there are no problems whatsoever,” the Inter defender argued. “We’re confident for the match against Lecce.”

Bastoni argued that “These kinds of errors happen to everyone. Even players who win Ballon d’Ors and World Cups.”

“This was just the first match of the season. We’ll take the point even if there’s a touch of bitterness.”
