Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco feels that the Nerazzurri “can’t allow” comebacks like that of AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana.
The 27-year-old reacted to the Supercoppa final defeat in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInterNews.
Inter have not managed to make it four Supercoppa Italiana triumphs in a row.
It seemed as though the Nerazzurri were on course to do so. Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi either side of halftime had them in a strong position.
However, from there, everything went wrong for Inter.
The Nerazzurri allowed the game to get very stretched. And Milan were ruthless in exploiting the spaces that they left at the back.
The Rossoneri scored three goals without reply, coming from Theo Hernandez, Christian Pulisic, and substitute Tammy Arbaham.
In truth, Milan were good value for those three goals, as they had a few other good chances to score as well. On the other hand, Inter also spurned a couple great chances to put the game to bed.
After the match, a bitter Dimarco admitted that “A team like ours can’t allow a comeback from 2-0 like that.”
“It hurts,” the Italian international continued.
“But we have to congratulate Milan. They had a great match, as we did as well.”
Dimarco then said that “we’ll analyze the mistakes we made and move forward.”
The 27-year-old reflected that “All defeats can help us improve.”
“Losing a derby is never easy,” Dimarco admitted. “But there are many goals for us, and with our heads held high we have to face the rest of the matches we have at our best.”
As far as whether Inter got complacent at 2-0 up, Dimarco said “I don’t think so.”
“We gave everything,” said the Inter wingback. “But we were up against a strong team, and on the pitch the details made the difference.”
“This is the second time they’ve scored the winner right at the end,” Dimarco noted. Milan had previously scored the winner late on in the league derby earlier this season.
“This can’t happen,” he said.
“Now, we have to get back up. Because on Sunday we have an important match in the league.”
“Unfortunately you can’t always win,” Dimarco said. “But Inter are a great team, and all our goals are important.”
Of playing the Supercoppa in Saudi Arabia, Dimarco said that “It was a great atmosphere, and we had a great time.”
“But we lost,” the 27-year-old added. “And I can’t say I’m happy about that.”
