Simone Inzaghi heaped praise on Inter Milan’s ‘strong’ performance after a massive 2-1 win against Bayern Munich this evening.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, the 49-year-old waxed lyrical about his side’s showing at the Allianz Arena.
It couldn’t have been any better for the Nerazzurri.
Despite slumping to a dismal 2-2 draw at Parma last weekend, Inter showed their winning mentality in Munich.
Indeed, goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi inspired the Italians to a massive first-leg win on hostile turf.
With a narrow advantage in the bag, they’re in pole position to reach the semi-finals for the second time in three years.
However, the job is only half done as Simone Inzaghi urged his charges to keep their feet firmly on the ground.
Yet, it’s party time in Milan as Inter took a huge step toward winning a sought-after treble.

“Credit to the lads,” Inzaghi said. “More than the result, I’d focus on the type of game we played – how we developed it and how we handled it.
“It’s only halftime, though.
“In seven days, we’ll face a very strong team again, but tonight Inter matched them extremely well.”
Asked whether this was his most significant win in the Inter dugout, Inzaghi replied: “It’s definitely a big one, and it makes us happy.
“We’ve done something important on the pitch of a team that’s won 23 of their last 27 home games in the Champions League.
“Now we have to follow this up next week at San Siro, in front of our fans.”
Then, he commented on Bayern’s performance.
“They tried, but they ran into an Inter side that played well.
“In the first half, we managed the ball well, and then in the 91st minute, we scored a wonderful goal starting from our goalkeeper.
“Even after conceding, we never stopped believing in the win. The lads were fantastic in staying on track.”
Finally, Inzaghi praised Inter’s mindset and ability to recover from painful results, such as the one at Parma.
“In the one and a half days we had to prepare, we focused on taking possession away from Bayern without just booting it long.
“We came here with personality. In the first half we kept the ball well, then Bayern pushed, but we stayed sharp.
“That late goal shows just how much we were in the game – playing with the same principles we’ve followed for nearly four years.”
