Inter Milan-owned striker Sebastiano Esposito has hit a record for goals in Serie A with his brace for Empoli.
Football stats account Opta note that the 22-year-old is now the youngest player to score four away goals in Serie A for the season, and the youngest Italian player to hit that tally.
Inter striker Esposito scored twice in a massive 4-1 win for Empoli over Hellas Verona today.
That was a very significant result in the Serie A relegation battle.
And for Esposito, it was a continuation of the excellent form that he’s shown for much of the season with Empoli.
The Inter-owned striker joined the Tuscan side on loan last summer.
This is the first loan spell that he has had with a club in Serie A. Previously, he had been at a number of clubs in Serie B and abroad.
Esposito has become a regular in the Empoli starting eleven right away under Roberto D’Aversa.
And the Inter-owned striker has really found his goalscoring form recently.
Esposito scored the equalizer for Empoli as they knocked derby rivals Fiorentina out of the Coppa Italia. He also scored in the shootout.
And this evening, Esposito scored his third and fourth goals of the season in Serie A.
As it happens, all of the 22-year-old’s goals have come away from home.
And, as Opta note, this means that Esposito now holds a season record.
They tweeted, “Sebastiano Esposito is the youngest player to have scored at least 4 goals away from home in this Serie A; overall he is also the youngest Italian with at least 4 goals scored in this campaign. Resounding.“
