Speaking to Radio Anch’io Sport via FCInterNews, he admitted the 48-year-old’s contract renewal is only a formality.

As one of the best coaches in Europe, let alone Serie A, Simone Inzaghi has plenty of admirers across the continent.

However, the reigning Scudetto holders hold the ex-Lazio boss in high esteem and have no intention of letting him go.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi’s contract at the San Siro runs out in the summer of 2026.

After winning the league title last season, he has set his sights on landing a coveted ‘treble’ this term.

Regardless of the outcome of that pursuit, Inter will likely extend his deal in the summer.

Indeed, the Italian giants are keen to secure Inzaghi’s long-term loyalty by renewing his contract until 2028.

During a comprehensive interview, Beppe Marotta addressed several hot topics, including Inzaghi’s future at Inter.

“We are very happy with Inzaghi,” he stated.

“His renewal is just a formality because he has done an excellent job over the years and is a cornerstone of the club.

“He’s one of the best coaches in the world and benefits from having been a great player himself, which gives him an edge.

“We’re delighted to have him with us. As we’ve always done, we’ll discuss the renewal at the end of the season.”

Moreover, he backed Inzaghi’s reaction to the constant media pressure.

“Inzaghi’s reaction was that of a professional – an instinctive outburst rather than a calculated one,” Marotta added.

“But we are Inter, and we are always under immense pressure. Our history sets an example, so it’s normal to experience tension.

“It’s part of the game. We can’t shy away from it; we must be ambitious and compete on all fronts as we are doing now.

“If others prove to be better, so be it.”

Meanwhile, Marotta assessed the ongoing title battle in Serie A.

“There are three main contenders, making it one of the most exciting seasons in years.

“That’s good for football. We’re still in an early phase, with many points up for grabs.

“People often focus on direct clashes, but every match presents difficulties. I believe it’s a very open championship.”

Serie A Format Change

Furthermore, Marotta discussed the league format, advocating for a potential cut.

“We remember when Serie A had 16 teams – today, we’re at 20, not even 18,” he said.

“It should be reduced to 18.

“Additionally, national teams now participate in an overloaded calendar, and the number of matches is the biggest issue.

“The second problem is that, compared to recent history, teams press high.

“It leads to a much greater energy expenditure than in the 1980s. There are more duels, which results in many injuries.”

Inter Milan Pursuit of Lazio Ace Gustav Isaksen & U-23 Project

“Statistically, we have the most prolific attack, so there’s clearly no problem,” Marotta added.

“We always find ways to score, whether through our forwards or other departments. Inzaghi’s system suits an offensively driven team.

“Isaksen is a good player, but every day, we’re linked with someone new.

“With Lautaro and Thuram, we have what I believe is the best attacking duo in Italy and one of the strongest in Europe.

“We’ll make our evaluations with Ausilio and Baccin later, always with the goal of remaining competitive.”

Meanwhile, he opened up on the ambitious U-23 project.

“We believe the U-23 team is crucial for integrating young players into the first team.

“The gap between U19 and senior football is too large, so an intermediate squad is needed.

“We will submit our application to join Lega Pro.”

National Team Under Pressure

Finally, he delivered his verdict on the Italy national team’s struggles.

“Yes, I’d say so, but these are valuable experiences. This is a very young, inexperienced group, but they have quality.

“Spalletti’s work will be judged in June when he faces a crucial test.

“However, there’s a new generation growing match by match.

“Compared to other European nations, we are at a disadvantage because we don’t have a historical recruitment base.

“Teams like Germany or Belgium can rely on naturalized players, often from former colonies, who are now eligible for those federations.

“Still, I’m optimistic because we have always achieved great milestones.

“This is a new cycle with young players, and Spalletti deserves time – he’s doing an excellent job in my opinion.”
