Nerazzurri President Beppe Marotta feels that it is vital that Inter Milan increased revenues with a more modern stadium.

Speaking at the Sport Festival of Trento, via FCInterNews, the Inter President and CEO emphasized that his club could be bringing in far more than the €80 million they did last season.

Inter and their city rivals AC Milan have made it clear that building a new stadium is a priority. They have been pushing to do so for years, despite coming up against bureaucratic hurdles.

And the reason why the clubs are so determined to move into a new stadium is no secret.

The San Siro may be an iconic European stadium. But it is quite an old stadium as well.

Most of Inter and Milan’s competition at the top of the European game play in much newer stadiums.

And above all, this means that these clubs can bring in considerably higher revenues.

The San Siro lacks the kind of hospitality seating which can attract higher ticket prices that other big stadiums have.

Moreover, there is a lack of other commercial development around the stadium. This is another form of revenue that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are missing out on.

Beppe Marotta: “Inter Milan Earned €80M From San Siro Last Season, Imagine In A More Modern Stadium”

Inter President Marotta, a veteran football executive, observed that “I’ve witnessed the evolution of football.”

“Because I’ve lived in this world for many years,” he continued.

“I’ve lived through the model of patronage,” he said, referring to when clubs tended to have one wealthy owner underwriting their expenses. “And now of entrepreneurship.”

“Paolo [Scaroni, AC Milan President] and I represent clubs owned by huge investment funds,” Marotta noted.

“I applaud [Lazio owner Claudio] Lotito and [Torino owner Urbano] Cairo,” Marotta said. “But football is moving towards the American model.”

“In fact,” Marotta said. “In Serie A there are ten clubs owned by Americans.”

The Inter President said that “As far as the stadium goes, clubs can’t just view it in aggregation.”

“The stadium has to be profitable in terms of revenues,” Marotta said. “It can’t be a cathedral in the desert, with people coming to watch matches every fifteen days.”

“It has to be the home of the club every day of the week.”

Marotta noted that “Last season we earned €80 million from the stadium.”

“Imagine how much more it would be with a modern stadium.”
