Matias Vecino should be a role model for one of Inter’s most promising academy midfielders, according to Primavera coach Armando Madonna.

Cesare Casadei became the Primavera’s top scorer this season by netting in the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over Crotone yesterday, earning them a spot in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals against Lazio.

The 18-year-old has scored three times in six appearances since the start of the campaign, but if Casadei wants to take his game to the next level he should be looking to Vecino for inspiration, after the Uruguayan international played 70 minutes with Inter’s youth team in a win over Genoa last week.

Speaking to FcInterNews.it, Madonna said: “We had Vecino with us last week and Casadei needs to learn to not get the easy decisions wrong during games, exactly like Matias showed him when he came in and played simple.

“Between making one decision and another the whole world can change.

“Casadei also needs to improve in his forward runs, in his heading ability and with his physical strength, but he’s already an important player.”

Vecino has been out of action with Inter’s first team since July after undergoing surgery on his knee.

He was included in Antonio Conte’s squad for Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final at San Siro, although the 29-year-old remained an unused substitute.
