Inter won their fourth consecutive match in the Champions League in a 1-0 victory at home against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night, the first time the club have won four games in a row in the competition since the last time they won the whole thing back in 2010 under Jose Mourinho.

Federico Dimarco’s set-piece delivery was turned in by Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba for the only goal of the game. The Nerazzurri are also the only team left in the competition who have not conceded in the Champions League so far this season.

Inter close in on 2010 Champions League record for consecutive wins

Not since 2010 have Inter won four or more Champions League matches in succession.

The Nerazzurri began the 2024-25 campaign with a 0-0 draw away against Manchester City, then picked up a 4-0 win at home to Crvena Zvezda, a 1-0 away against Young Boys, another 1-0 at home to Arsenal and most recently the 1-0 win over RB Leipzig.

Though Inter went all the way to the final in the 2022-23 season, they did not win more than two games in a row.

Their best run of that campaign came in the group stage with back-to-back wins against Viktoria Plzen and Barcelona, and again with a 2-0 and 1-0 double in the all-Italian semi-final against rivals Milan.

Inter did not make it past the round of 16 in any campaign between 2018 and 2022, and did not win more than twice in a row in the Champions League in any of those seasons.

The Nerazzurri did win three in a row in the group stage of the 2011-12 edition, before being knocked out by Marseille.

The 2010-11 campaign ended at the quarter-final stage, at the hands of Bayern Munich in a re-match of the final from the season prior, but two wins in a row in the group stages was Inter’s best run of consecutive wins that season.

The last time that Inter won four or more games in a row in the Champions League was in the victorious 2009-10 season.

Mourinho took the Nerazzurri to six successive victories that year, winning his final group stage game against Rubin Kazan, then both legs of the round of 16 against Chelsea, both quarter-final matches against CSKA Moscow, before a 3-1 win against Barcelona in the first leg of the semi.

Barcelona won the second leg 1-0, which was still enough for Inter to qualify for the final, before beating Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Bernabeu to claim the club’s third ever Champions League or European cup trophy, their most recent to date.
