The Inter front office and Simone Inzaghi are looking for answers after a pair of costly faux pas. They have wasted a couple of opportunities to surpass Napoli, which have drawn thrice in a row. The performances of Hakan Calhanoglu have come under scrutiny, as he has been subpar since coming back from injury, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
The Turk was very underwhelming in the matches against Milan, Fiorentina, and Juventus, affecting the whole team. They have collected just 4 out of a possible 12 points in such a stretch. The coach isn’t thinking about anything drastic, as his replacements haven’t shined either. He’ll continue increasing the playing time of the ‘regista,’ hoping he’ll be in better shape for the meeting with Napoli in two weeks.
Inter president Giuseppe Marotta paid the squad a visit on Tuesday along with the rest of the front office. He no longer does it daily since being elevated to his current position. The Nerazzurri have been defeated 5 times in 36 matches, while they had lost just on 4 occasions in 49 fixtures last season.
There wasn’t any grand meeting or speech, as the situation wasn’t dire. La Benamata remains close to its goal. The coaching staff and the execs fear that the players have gotten a little too complacent, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan denounced.
They could have won all the recent fixtures but the first Fiorentina one had they finalized better and played complete matches rather than inexplicably taking some stretches off. Calhanoglu wasn’t great even in the first half of the season probably due to a combination of aging and wear and tear.
