Inter Suffer Double Injury Blow Ahead of Resumption

Inter won’t have two of their main stars, Lautaro Martinez and Denzel Dumfries, against Udinese on Sunday and perhaps also for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Milan. Both withdrew from international duties early but had a few days off before taking the tests, Sky reports.
The Dutchman has a more severe injury, a biceps femoris muscular distraction in his right thigh. He’s eyeing the Bayern Munich match in early April for his return. He got hurt in the most recent Serie A game and will be re-evaluated in a week.
While Dumfries won’t be available as Inter take on Milan next Wednesday, Lautaro Martinez has an outside chance to be an option. He’s nursing a flexor problem that is less worrisome and is already improving. The Nerazzurri will play it safe to have him fully ready for the key Champions League bouts.
The wingback had yet to miss a game due to injury this campaign. El Toro had sat out one back in August for a similar reason.
Inter will be depleted sans Lautaro Martinez, Dumfries, and Alessandro Bastoni, who’s suspended, versus Udinese, but they’ll recover some men who were on the mend before the break. Federico Dimarco, Matteo Darmian, and Nicola Zalewski have shaken off their muscular problems. Marcus Thuram didn’t play with France to heal completely from an ankle injury that had been bothering him for weeks. Stefan De Vrij has been nursing some knee soreness and will be a late call for Sunday. Instead, Piotr Zielinski will be sidelined for a while longer.
