Renato Gaúcho’s 100% record as Flamengo manager was well and truly smashed as a Yuri Alberto hat-trick inspired Internacional to a historic win at the Maracanã on Sunday.
Scorers: Alberto 19′, 41′, 70, Taison 55′
The visitors’ first goal came after Alberto combined beautifully with EdenĂlson before slotting past goalkeeper Diego Alves.
Flamengo’s disjointed first-half performance was punished for a second time shortly before half time.
Captain Taison was given plenty of time and space to play in Alberto whose shot beat Alves rather too easily at his near post.
The hosts were better immediately after the break, but naively got done on the break as 33-year-old Taison raced away from both Diego and Filipe LuĂs before ramming his shot home.
Matters then went from bad to worse for the Rubro-Negro just after the hour mark when Gabriel Barbosa managed to get himself sent off for two separate incidents of dissent in quick succession.
Alberto completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes to go, lashing home after he beat Flamengo’s haphazard offside trap.
The result keeps Flamengo outside the top four in the BrasileirĂŁo, but lifts the Colorado up to 11th.
