Former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot made his Parc des Princes return on Sunday evening, where he received a less-than warm welcome in the second Classique clash of the season. It was expected that Rabiot was going to receive a hostile welcome in the French capital, especially coming onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes wearing the captain’s armband for Olympique de Marseille.During the game there were offensive banners aimed at Rabiot, notably one which read “Loyalty for men, betrayal for whores – like mother, like son.” The France international was copiously at every touch of the ball on his Parc des Princes return. After Veronique Rabiot indicated to France Info that she “did not understand why the match was not stopped,” Adrien posted a public response on Instagram, saying “Insulting a mother and a dead father – you pay for everything someday. You will not go to heaven, trust me.”

“Nasser, you can have all of the money in the world, even more, but you can’t buy class,” said Rabiot in a message aimed at PSG president Nasser-Al Khelaifi.

Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan and FFF boss Phillipe Diallo condemn PSG’s Rabiot banners

At the start of this week, Marseille mayor Benoît Payan and French FA president Philippe Diallo have both publicly condemned the banners and insults directed Rabiot and his family. “The attacks directed at Adrien Rabiot and his family are intolerable,” said Payan in a post published on his X account. “I give all my support to the player and his mother. This type of behaviour is not acceptable. Football should always bring us together.” “I condemn in the strongest possible terms the offensive banners and chants seen and heard yesterday at the Parc des Princes,” said French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo told AFP. “In particular, the insults hurled at a player and his family by irresponsible supporters are disgraceful, shameful and appalling. Naturally, I give them my full support in condemning such behaviour, which has no place in football or anywhere else.”GFFN | George Boxall
