Simone Inzaghi has claimed that he will remind the Inter squad what happened to AC Milan and Napoli after they won the Scudetto.

Inter were the runaway winners of Serie A last season as they had both the best attack and the best defence, eventually finishing 19 points above Milan. Repeating the numbers they hit will be hard, but the challenge has also been laid down for the chasing pack to put more pressure on.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the new season alongside Beppe Marotta, Inzaghi was asked about the attitude that Inter must show as the defending champions, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“We will have to be even more ferocious and always stay on top of things, it will not be easy to repeat ourselves after last year. But we do not start again with that advantage, we all start from 0, some will show themselves and others will not,” he said.

“Let’s not forget that Milan and Napoli did not qualify for the Champions League the following year after winning the Scudetto. When we are all there [all players are present], I will remind them of the difficulties of Milan and Napoli post-scudetto.”

The Italian also commented on the decision of Milan and Napoli to change head coach during the summer, with the former going for Paulo Fonseca and the latter choosing Antonio Conte.

“The pitch will tell, time will tell. Two excellent coaches like Conte and Fonseca are back, our opponents are getting stronger, we will have to be ready and strong.”
