Simone Inzaghi explains his Inter choices for tonight’s match with Monza, admitting they have ‘some objective difficulties’ with injuries in a packed campaign. ‘This is our 41st game.’

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 GMT.

The Nerazzurri are fresh from a morale-boosting 2-0 Champions League victory away to Feyenoord, which puts them in excellent position going into the second leg on Wednesday.

“I tried to pick the best line-up possible, there are a few changes from Rotterdam and it is not going to be easy, as Monza always caused us problems,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

Federico Dimarco, Nicola Zalewski and Matteo Darmian are injured, but Carlos Augusto returns to the bench with goalkeeper Yann Sommer, so Alessandro Bastoni is again filling the gap as a left-sided wing-back.

“We have some objective difficulties with injuries on the left flank. Bastoni adapted well and Carlos Augusto returns today, but he hasn’t played for three weeks, so it’s better not to rush his return from the start.

“Having so many games during the season can be an issue, but we’ve got to take it one at a time and concentrate on this evening.”

Marko Arnautovic is chosen to partner Lautaro Martinez, giving Marcus Thuram a rest.

“Arnautovic is one of the five strikers, he always gave his support. Thuram is living with a recurring fitness issue, Correa and Taremi are helping out, so we’ll see as the match goes on,” continued Inzaghi.

There was a warm welcome for the team bus outside San Siro and Inter continue to pack the fans in on a regular basis.

“It is enormously pleasing, the lads deserve it, because they are doing something remarkable,” added Inzaghi.

“The season we’re facing is not simple, as this is already our 41st competitive match and there will be the Club World Cup at the end of that, but we are proud to be still competing on every front and will try to give our best for those who love Inter.”
