Simone Inzaghi and Inter will be looking to finish the job against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night after a scintillating performance in the first leg at the Allianz Arena. They’ll have to beat the tradition, as the Bavarians have prevailed in their last four trips to San Siro. However, they’ll be significantly depleted.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, winning in Europe is the final step for the gaffer to win over every sceptic. The Nerazzurri went all the way in the Champions League two years ago, losing in the final, but they didn’t face other European powerhouses on their way to Istanbul.
Inter and Inzaghi have further grown together in the last couple of seasons. The relationship is bound to continue. The brass sees his renewal as a formality. His contract is up in 2026. The management doesn’t want him to start the next campaign as a lame duck.
The parties will negotiate in quieter times, but there won’t be much drama. After a series of one-year renewals, they might agree to a longer one until 2028. His salary will likely increase by €500k annually to €7M.
He hasn’t seemed much interested in going abroad yet, and, until he changes his mind, there aren’t threats on the horizon. Winning the Champions League isn’t a pipe dream, and he might stay until they do it. Plus, the Nerazzurri have progressively raised the bar salary-wise, and his one isn’t at uncomfortable levels yet. Still, the outlook of their season is liable to change in a hurry depending on their next results.
