The Hatters could be set to see one of their wide men head back to the top-flight of English football
Ipswich Town are interested in signing Luton Town winger Chiedozie Ogbene before the summer transfer window closes on Friday night.
That's according to a report from BBC Sport journalist Nick Mashiter, who claims that the Tractor Boys are still looking to sign another attacker.
Ogbene joined Luton last summer after their promotion to the Premier League, following the expiration of his contract at Rotherham United.
The Republic of Ireland international impressed in the top flight last season after arriving on a free, but was unable to prevent them suffering an immediate relegation back to the Championship.
However, it appears the 27-year-old could be given the chance to make a swift return to the Premier League, as Ipswich weigh up a move for his services.
As per this latest update, Kieran McKenna's side are keen to make a late move to sign Ogbene in the final days of the window.
Following their promotion to the Premier League this summer, it has been a busy period in the transfer market for Ipswich.
The Tractor Boys have already made 11 first-team signings in the market, including new attacking options Sammie Szmodics, Omari Hutchinson, Jack Clarke and Liam Delap.
However, it is suggested another forward option is still on the agenda, with Wes Burns having recently picked up a hamstring injury.
That has led to their interest in Ogbene, who still has time remaining on his contract at Kenilworth Road, having only joined last summer.
It has been a tough start to life in the top-flight for Ipswich, who have been beaten by Liverpool and Manchester City in their first two games, leaving them 19th in the early standings.
Luton meanwhile, have had a similarly tough beginning to the 2024-25 season back in the Championship after one year away.
Rob Edwards' side have taken just one point from their opening three league games, leaving them 23rd as things stand.
They now have games against QPR to come in both the Carabao Cup and Championship to come over the course of this week.
The Hatters have already seen senior players such as Ross Barkley, Gabe Osho, Luke Berry and Dan Potts leave the club after playing parts for them in the Premier League last season.
It is hard to imagine that Luton are going to be ready to let Ogbene go easily between now and the end of the window on Friday night.
The winger was one of the brighter sparks for them in the Premier League last season, with his pace proving to be a major asset.
He has also performed well in the Championship in the past, and so could be a useful player for Edwards' side if they are able to keep him.
Indeed, having only signed him last summer, it is hard to imagine Luton would want to let him go so soon if they can avoid it.
Ipswich though, will know that he can be a useful signing for them this season, while the chance of a quick return to the top-flight could appeal to Ogbene as well.
The East Anglia outfit have also shown they are ready and willing to spend this summer following promotion, so that could also put pressure on the Hatters over the 27-year-old.
