Heimir Hallgrímsson has named his first Ireland squad ahead of September’s Nations League games against England and Greece.
The squad is packed with familiar faces, but there is space for a new call-up in the form of Kasey McAteer. The Leicester City winger has received FIFA clearance and is now set for his first cap for the Boys in Green.
There is, however, no place in the squad for young Udinese full-back Festy Ebosele.
Hallgrímsson could hardly have picked two more suitable opponents for his first two games in charge, facing off with old rivals England (and their interim manager Lee Carsley), who he famously defeated with Iceland at EURO 2016, and Greece, who beat Ireland home and away in EURO 2024 qualifiers.
Ireland take on England on September 6 before facing Greece three days later. Both games will take place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
