Is Diego Carlos on his way out of the door?

There was much talk about Diego Carlos and his Aston Villa future during the summer but once the transfer window slammed shut, the Brazilian remained a Villa player.

Fast forward 5 months and we find ourselves in January once again talking about the departure of Carlos but this time, his likely destination is Fenerbahçe.

Simon Jones from Mail Sport is reporting that the defender is wanted by Jose Mourinho in a £10 million deal and they are confident of getting their man.

Villa have been linked with the likes of Milan Skriniar, Wesley Franca and Óscar Mingueza in recent days as they look to find a replacement for the injured Pau Torres, who has been ruled out for at least two months with a broken foot.

Fulham we said to have been interested in Carlos’ services in the summer but the two clubs failed to agree on a fee and the London side opted to sign Joachim Anderson from Crystal Palace.

Diego Carlos is said to be on around £100,000 a week and has 18 months left on his deal and although I think the club would welcome a departure, it may mean they will need to sign two defenders and not one as initially planned.

The 31-year-old has made 58 appearances (17 this season) since he signed for the club from Sevilla in 2022.

There are a lot of rumours circulating where Villa are concerned at the moment with Jaden Philogene also said to be wanted by Everton. There seems to be more rumours than normal which would suggest agents are pushing their agendas in the media because Villa are openly active in the market. Watch this space.
