Not many would have predicted that after 26 matches in the Eredivisie, a player from Go Ahead Eagles would be top of the assist charts. In a leaue iwth the likes of Igor Paixao, Ismael Saibari and Joey Veerman, none are doing better than a Finnish winger in Deventer. Signed for just over €1m in the summer from Danish side Nordsjaelland, 23-year-old Oliver Antman may well be the signing of the season in Dutch football this year.

In just 28 games so far, the winger has scored five goals and provided 13 assists, 12 of which have come in the league. To put this into perspective, Antman has neve provided more than two assists in his entire career, which came back in the 2021/2022 season. Last year he played 28 games for the Danish side and only secured one. Antman is no stranger to the league, having spent half a season on loan at Groningen, again grabbing one assist during the 2022/2023 campaign. This year however, he is leading the way for his side and the league as a whole.

Antman, Victor Edvardsen and Jakob Breum are Go-Ahead’s strong Scandinavian strike force that has helped lead the side into the European play offs with an impressive 47 goals in 26 games overall. The former two were also pivotal in the sides recent win over PSV, with Antman grabbing a brace and Edvardsen another goal for the season. The Eagles will be glad that they secured Antman until 2027, as there is no doubt that the Finnish international will be the target of a few clubs this summer. His is closing in on the total assist numbers of Veerman from last year. The PSV star provided 16. For added context, we have to go down some way to find the highest Go-Ahead Eagles player on the list from last season. Bobby Adekanye had five, the 33rd best numbers of all players in the league.

With Antman leading the way, the side will be confident they can once again finish in the European play-off spots and challenge for a place in the continental competitions next year. This season, having won the play-offs during the 2023/2024 campaign, they lost over two legs to Brann of Norway.
