Silva received his marching orders just three seconds into his side’s eventual 3-0 defeat to Athletico Paranaense on Saturday.

The forward elbowed Kaique Rocha just above the neck within moments of kick-off in their Brasileiro Série A and earned an instant dismissal.

Silva’s red mist moment has already landed him in hot water with his club after Cruzeiro CEO Alexandre Mattos confirmed he will be fined for the “unacceptable” act.

“Rafa has already been notified of a severe fine, within what the law allows,” said Mattos. “Then, we will wait for the next steps.”
