Phil Foden has made a slow start to the 24/25 season. The England international had a busy summer with England, and illness hampered his start to the new campaign. But in good news for Manchester City and Foden, it appears that he is beginning to turn a corner and looks to be returning to his best. His performance against Slovan Bratislava last night featured everything good in Foden’s game. That is a positive sign for the world champions.

From the outset last night Manchester City looked in the mood to dominate Slovan Bratislava. And so it would prove as they cruised to a 4-nil win over the hosts. It was almost the perfect night for Pep Guardiola’s side as they picked up an easy victory and a host of key players showed signs of returning to their best. One of those was Phil Foden.

Foden scored Manchester City’s second goal of the night with a sublime finish. His assist for James McAtee to score City’s fourth was spectacular. But outside of that the movement and magic in Foden’s game looks to have returned. After having an interrupted start to the new season it was always going to take Foden time to find his touch. Against Slovan Bratislava that looked to have returned.

Speaking with mancity.com after Manchester City’s convincing win Phil Foden was happy to get on the score sheet. His goal last night was his first for the 24/25 season. He also said that he is beginning to get back to his best. Foden said: “A good night for myself, obviously being back out there. It’s nice to score again, but more importantly, just enjoying my football again. I’m delighted with the result and how I played. I’ve had a very slow start to the season with a bit of illness and a bit of fatigue. But, I’m getting back into it now and feeling more like myself.

Phil Foden’s performance last night was great to see for Manchester City. When he is at his best he is an integral component of Pep Guardiola’s side. With Ilkay Gundogan also looking to have regained some touch last night and with Kevin De Bruyne out injured Phil Foden has crucial role to play this weekend against Fulham. Based on his display last night he looks set to make his mark on the season. After a slow start to the season that is welcome news for everyone associated with Manchester City.
