"It is a worry" - Pundit reveals Wrexham AFC concern involving Paul Mullin | OneFootball

Wrexham are enjoying another fine season, but Paul Mullin's lack of goals is cause for concern.

Wrexham are, as expected, enjoying a superb season in League One.

The rise of Wrexham AFC has been well documented after Hollywood actors, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, took over as co-owners of the club back in 2020.

Their tenure has, so far, witnessed promotions from both the National League and League Two, and the club are not willing to stop there.

They now find themselves in the third tier, where they are undoubtedly looking to earn an immediate promotion straight to the Championship, which would be a fantastic achievement, given where the club was a decade ago.

So far this season, they have won 7 of their first 13 League One games, which sees them sit third in the table on 25 points. Wrexham have become a globally-recognised football club with dreams of one day making the Premier League, so they will be hoping to earn promotion from the third tier as soon as possible.

One man, among many, that has been a crucial part of Wrexham's rise over the last few seasons is striker, Paul Mullin. However, he is currently enduring an uncharacteristically barren spell in front of goal.

The 30-year-old has managed to score just one goal in 11 League One appearances this season, plus an extra two in the EFL Trophy against Salford City and Wolves U21s. This form is very unusual for the striker, who has been incredibly prolfiic in front of goal for a number of seasons.

Wrexham may be concerned by Mullin's lack of League One goals

Many people are aware of the quality that Mullin possesses, but League One is an unfamiliar division for him in terms of regular goals. Former England international and current pundit, Carlton Palmer, spoke exclusively to Football League World on the concern that the Red Dragons may have about Mullin's form.

"Paul Mullin, Wrexham's striker, in 11 appearances this season has only scored one goal. He's been prolific, as we've seen before... but he's untested at League One level."

"Wrexham are doing really, really well. At the moment, they're sat in third place, of course they want to go again this season and get another promotion. They're just outside the top two with Wycombe Wanderers and Birmingham City four points ahead.'

"I think they'll probably have to look past Paul Mullin with all due respect. Looking at his history, he's not prolific in League One. If they want someone who's prolific they would have to go out and get somebody who scores goals in League One and I think they will in January."

"It's very, very tight in those play-off spots, Bolton Wanderers 23 points, Lincoln City 24, Mansfield Town 24, Wrexham 25. They will need somebody who can score goals, but given two successive promotions, they're going along great at the moment. It is a worry that Paul Mullin does not score goals at League One level."

Paul Mullin's time at Wrexham

The season before signing for Wrexham, Paul Mullin scored an incredible 32 goals in the fourth tier with Cambridge United and was handed the League Two Player of the Season award, so it came as a surprise when he stepped down to non-league to play for Wrexham.

Since joining, Mullin has become a hero in the Welsh town, having scored a total of 64 league goals over the course of two National League seasons to help the club achieve promotion into the Football League.

Last season, the striker continued his rich vein of form by contributing to 32 League Two goals, which ultimately led to Wrexham's promotion from the fourth tier at the first attempt.

Mullin has never scored regular goals in League One, and that issue is becoming apparent this season, but there is no doubt that the 30-year-old remains a modern-day club legend.
