One player that Manchester City were heavily linked with during the January transfer window was Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso. James Holland has previously reported for TeamTalk that it was expected that City would renew their interest in signing the versatile full-back this summer. Now a new report indicates that it may not be a formality that the Italian international will join Pep Guardiola’s squad this summer. Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign Cambiaso meaning City will likely face stiff competition to land the Juventus defender.
Michael Sakr has relayed a report from TuttoMercatoWeb for juvefc.com that Liverpool is in the market for a full-back this summer. Furthermore, Sakr reports that Liverpool could make a move for Andrea Cambiaso to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold. Alexander-Arnold is expected to sign for Real Madrid at the end of this season. It is also included in Sakr’s report that Manchester City are expected to return for Cambiaso this summer. Juventus are likely to demand a transfer fee of €60 million to sell their versatile full-back this summer.
Andrea Cambiaso is a player who would fill an obvious need in Pep Guardiola’s squad. He is a versatile full-back who can slot in at either left or right-back. His best attributes do look to be suited for playing for Manchester City. But due to his obvious quality, it’s no surprise to see Liverpool linked with a move for the Italian international. They appear to have an obvious void to fill in their squad this summer. That may see them rival City for Cambiaso’s signature in the summer.
It now doesn’t appear to be a formality that City will land Andrea Cambiaso this summer. Another suitor has seemingly emerged for the Italian international. The race to sign him is now another story to watch for during the summer transfer window. From a Manchester City point of view it seems that they have identified Andrea Cambiaso to fill a void in their squad. Now they’ll seemingly have to fend off competition from Arne Slot’s side to land the Italian international.
