Chris Sutton has been talking about Newcastle United.

He won the Premier League when playing alongside Alan Shearer at Blackburn in the 1994/95 season.

Exactly 30 years on from that, Chris Sutton declaring “..it would just be great for Newcastle United to win a trophy”, which of course is what Shearer and all other NUFC fans are dreaming of.

You try not to think about it too much BUT these next 45 days look massive for Newcastle United.

Exactly 45 days from now, the Carabao Cup final will be played at Wembley and if all goes to plan on Wednesday, United will be one of the two teams playing for that trophy.

Some massive Premier League matches coming up in the meantime and if Eddie Howe and his players are at Wembley on Sunday 16 March, by that point there will be only 10 PL games left to be played and we will know a fair bit more by that point where potentially Newcastle could finish in the table. With Champions League qualification hopefully realistic…

To further add to the mix, by the time of the Carabao Cup final, Newcastle United could also potentially be through to the last eight of the FA Cup. That would need a win at League One Birmingham and then getting through the fifth round in early March.

All to play for!

Chris Sutton talking to Gambling Zone about Newcastle United and their chances this season:

“I still think Newcastle United will be up there.

“Isak is the one, he’s been absolutely flying.

“Anthony Gordon is playing well. Jacob Murphy, really pleased to see him performing.

“Nice balance about them and a really good watch. They’ll certainly be pushing for a Champions League place.

“The Bournemouth result was a surprise. I think just the nature of how Bournemouth rolled Newcastle over, I do think that was a one-off.

“And of course they’ve got the League Cup semi-final against Arsenal. You never know with that, but it would just be great for Newcastle United to win a trophy.

“They’re on for the treble still, aren’t they?

“Haven’t won anything for years, but they’re on for the treble.

“Let’s hope they do win something.”
