The Serie A sides will have a better shot at luring Edon Zhegrova next summer, as the attacker announced that he wouldn’t renew his contract, which runs out in 2026. Lille could opt to sell him to avoid a Bosman departure. He spoke to Radio Dukagjini (via Europa Calcio).
“It’s true, I relayed to the club that I won’t sign an extension. We’ll see what happens in the summer. The front office has been informed of my decision. Many teams are interested. I’ll decide my future after the end of Ligue 1.”
Zhegrova had gotten off to a strong start, but his season has been derailed by a significant groin injury.
“It was a rough moment for me, but I think it’ll make me strong mentally. I’m working hard to return better than before and using this time to correct some weaknesses. If the rehab goes according to plan, I’ll be ready in March. I won’t be available against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.”
Before getting hurt, Zhegrova registered 8 goals and 2 assists in 21 matches across all competitions. He has scored 26 times and provided 18 helpers in 107 matches with Lille. He previously starred with Basel and Genk.
Napoli reportedly tested the waters for him in January while searching for an attacker. Milan and Juventus also displayed some interest in the past. Roma did it when the future of Paulo Dybala was uncertain, and they hadn’t brought in Matias Soulé yet.
He should, but he’s not a lock to leave after seeing what happened with Jonathan David. He’d be an easy fit in many outfits thanks to his class and versatility.
