Bologna wasted a two-goal lead against strugglers Genoa, and Vincenzo Italiano insists his players must be more focused as they’ve ‘fumbled leads too many times’ this season.

Riccardo Orsolini and Jens Odgaard gave Bologna a two-goal lead at Marassi on Saturday, but a brace from Andrea Pinamonti allowed the Grifone to earn one point.

DAZN asked Italiano if Bologna’s lack of concentration in the second half was connected to their upcoming Champions League match against Aston Villa on Tuesday.

“We must learn that games are never finished until the end. One incident is enough to put everything in doubt again,” said the Rossoblu coach.

“We must fix something in the defensive line because it’s not possible to concede a headed goal from the edge of the box. We must increase attention to detail during the week in training.

“I am sorry because we could have hurt more on counter-attacks. We must be more focused on everything we do because we could have had more points.”

During a post-match press conference, Italiano received one more question about the next Champions League match, but he insisted that his players should be more focused regardless of the competition they play in.

“We get food for thought in every game,” he said as quoted by TMW.

“We must be more focused because we fumbled leads too many times.”

Bologna have collected nine points in the opening seven Serie A matches this term, scoring nine goals and conceding 11.

They have one point in two games in the Champions League following a draw against Shakhtar Donetsk and a defeat to Liverpool.
