Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni showed his full value in yesterday’s match.

The Italian international scored his first goal of the season for Inter. He placed the ball over the head of Cagliari keeper Simone Scuffet with a looping header.

But goals are hardly Bastoni’s main job.

On the other hand, defending is certainly one of Bastoni’s main tasks. And the 25-year-old did that exceptionally well at the Unipol Domus.

Bastoni looked alert and composed in defending counterattacking situations.

Meanwhile, in possession Bastoni was the player who often pushed up to really drive Inter’s attacking play down the left side of the pitch. That has certainly become a familiar sight.

Alessandro Bastoni: “I Feel Appreciated At Inter Milan”

Of his status at Inter, Bastoni said that “I’m always the first to keep a low profile.”

“I appreciated here where I am,” the Italian international. “And I can’t ask for more than that.”

“What I’m doing is there for everyone to see,” Bastoni made clear.

“Then everything else doesn’t interest me,” he said. “The respect of the people I work with is what’s important.”

Then, of the Serie A title race, Bastoni said that “We have a lot of rivals.”

“Atalanta and Napoli are doing well,” the 25-year-old noted. “We have to keep going the way we have been and try to win every match.”

Of the Nerazzurri’s impressive scoring rate from defenders, Bastoni said that “The defense participate in attacking possession a lot, and that helps.”

“The switch for us came when we started attacking all together, and defending all together.”

Meanwhile, Bastoni admitted that on his goal, “I wasn’t actually aiming for the goal.”

“I wanted to put the ball into the middle of the area,” the 25-year-old said with a laugh. “But it’s all the same.”
