They say good things come in threes and it seems the same can be said of people missing open goals from two-yards out.
That’s what happened not once, not twice but three times across Europe these weekend and it’s time to name and shame the culprits.
Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur kicked things off when he did this during his side’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Saturday.
Then on Sunday, Sergio Agüero somehow missed an open goal before going on to make up for it by scoring a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-0 demolition of Chelsea.
But the pièce de résistance was saved until last.
Remember former Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotić? Well he’s playing his football in Ligue 1 for Saint-Étienne these days and only he will know how he failed to score in his side’s 3-0 defeat at Rennes on Sunday.
Egg on faces all over the show.
