The Tigers have certainly caught the attention of many outsiders under Tim Walter

EFL pundit Adrian Clarke has described watching Hull City as "carnage" after he saw the Tigers record a third successive victory against Queens Park Rangers.

In what was an end-to-end encounter, Tim Walter's side continued their recent wave of positive momentum with a 3-1 success at Loftus Road, backing up impressive comeback victories against Stoke City and Cardiff City.

The German's style-of-play has come under the microscope of many EFL watchers so far this season for varying reasons.

But, after a sluggish start amid a high amount of player turnover at the MKM Stadium, the 48-year-old's squad have started to find their feet in recent weeks and have shot up the Championship table.

Due to the new Sky Sports + TV deal, Clarke and his co-hosts of the 'What The EFL' Podcast - Matt Davies-Adams and Sam Parkin, were all present at games across the midweek round of fixtures.

The former Arsenal man was present in West London on co-commentary duties as City rode an early wave of pressure from Marti Cifuentes' side to take a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Cody Drameh and Chris Bedia, before Nicolas Madsen reduced the arrears through a 44th-minute penalty.

However, Hull once again stood firm against their hosts and wrapped up a third straight win as Liam Millar scored his first goal for the club after 71 minutes.

As referenced above, much has been made of Walter's unique brand of football so far this season, but Clarke wasn't overly surprised that his side made the long journey back to East Yorkshire with another three points on the board.

"I think Hull have clicked into gear a little bit," he began. "They've got lots of goals in them."

"That was the promise, wasn't it? when Tim Walter was brought in - they'd 'rather lose 4-3 than draw 0-0' was the famous quote from the owner."

"It's carnage watching Hull, it really is," Clarke stated. "You've got the centre-half, Sean McLoughlin, who spends a lot of the game in midfield and they just leave one centre-back, which is very risky, but it does help them control matches and overload the opposition at times.

"They rode their luck in this game," he added. "QPR didn't play poorly by any stretch. They could have had four in the first 10 minutes."

"Ivor Pandur had an absolute blinder. Some brilliant saves from him, excellent handling as well later on in the game," Clarke continued.

"For Hull, it was just a very good team performance. Belloumi stands out on the right, as does Liam Millar on the left. Two really positive wingers, who just run at full-backs and Millar scored from one of those," the pundit explained.

QPR will feel extremely frustrated that they didn't take one of their several chances early in the second half, at a time when they had the lions share of the ball and bombared Hull's resolute back-line.

However, the pendulum firmly swung when Walter opted to switch Kasey Palmer and Regan Slater for Oscar Zambrano and Marvin Mehlem, allowing for a much more balanced and composed midfield trio, which Clarke identified as a game-changing moment for the Tigers.

"Just a quick word on Tim Walter, who nailed his assessment of the match. The problem Hull had was they had Xavier Simons in midfield, flanked by Regan Slater and Kasey Palmer, and they were way too far apart. It allowed QPR to slice through them quite easily through the middle."

"He recognised it, brought on Zambrano and Mehlem and it completely changed the game,"

"From that moment onwards, when Zambrano in particular started to dominate the midfield, QPR didn't have a sniff and it was all Hull City."

He concluded: "An enjoyable game, and a really promising one for Hull City, tactically and entertainment wise. They're going to concede loads of goals, but they'll score lots too."

Hull City have been good value for their recent victories

Walter had come under scrutiny following the 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United on September 13th after his post-match verdict, which was followed up by premature claims that the former Hamburg SV boss was already facing the bullet.

However, in the three matches that have followed, City have been good value for their victories, with Tuesday night's win the first time they'd taken the lead in any competitive fixture this season.

Of course, the side do leave themselves rather exposed at times due to the demands placed on someone like McLoughlin who so often drifts into midfield areas.

This was a regular occurance against the Blades and in the early exchanges at the Bet365 Stadium and Loftus Road, with Hull often caught short on the transition.

But, in Belloumi, Millar and Bedia, Walter now has a front three who pose a real threat in wide and central areas, with the Union Berlin loanee a focal point which allows the expressive wide men to create and provide chances at will, proven by a goal return of 10 in three games.

Momentum is a key weapon in the second tier, even at such an early stage, and Hull will hope to record a fourth-straight win against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday lunchtime.
