Itā€™s transfer deadline day!

No, you have not read that wrong and we have not made a mistake, it really is deadline day for clubs in two European nations on Wednesday, 24 hours before all the other major leagues on the continent.

Over in the Netherlands and Austria, clubs only have until the end of Wednesday to make signings.

The opening and closing of the window is not decided by Fifa or Uefa but by each countryā€™s own FA.

And while there has been no explanation from anyone involved with the Austrian Bundesliga, it turns out the window closes early in the Netherlands by mistake.

Of course, 31 August is usually the date the window closes, but the vast majority of Europe have plumped for 1 September this year, presumably because so many midweek games are to be played on Wednesday.

Well, nobody told the Dutch FA, who filed 31 August as their deadline day with Fifa, realised too late, and then had an appeal to extend the window rejected.

ā€œThere was little chance that the request would be honoured, because the FIFA regulations prescribe that no more changes can be made when the transfer window is open,ā€ a statement from the KNVB, the Dutch FA, revealed earlier this summer.

ā€œOther associations have made a similar request to the KNVB and they have all received a rejection.ā€

If Ajax want to replace Antony, they had better get a move on.
