Manchester City’s Jack Grealish has issued an update on his latest injury setback with a 20-word message on social media ahead of the weekend’s meeting with Newcastle.
The England international forward has endured a hugely complicated season so far for Manchester City as he struggles to find consistency in Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad selections amid a growing list of injury concerns.
The form of Savinho and Jeremy Doku on the left of Manchester City’s attacking trio has added further complications to his season, despite a brief stint in the centre of the park that brought plenty of promise with his performance.
However, Pep Guardiola continues to have plenty of faith in the 29-year-old forward despite the difficulties that have come largely since his integral role in Manchester City’s Treble-winning run-in, handing him a start in midweek against Real Madrid.
Having played a vital role in City’s opening goal by unlocking the Real Madrid defence with a lofted pass into Josko Gvardiol and on to Erling Haaland, Grealish then endured an injury blow that forced him off the pitch and straight down the Etihad Stadium tunnel.
Now, in an upload to his official Instagram story this week, Jack Grealish insisted that while there is still ‘all to play for’ ahead of the second-leg against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last-16 play-off round, he is hopeful of his injury not being too bad.
“Hopefully the injury isn’t too bad and thank you for the support last night (Tuesday),” Grealish said this week.
“Still all to play for next week,” he continued in reference to Manchester City’s clash with Los Blancos in the Spanish capital next Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola is likely to provide an update on Jack Grealish’s fitness when he faces the media on Friday afternoon as Manchester City prepare to welcome Newcastle United to the Etihad Stadium in Premier League action this weekend.
Another injury blow from the 2-3 home defeat to Real Madrid in Manuel Akanji is expected to be sidelined for several weeks having been ruled out of the return-leg against the Spanish giants on Thursday afternoon.
There has been talk of the Swiss defender’s season being over as a result of the muscular problem sustained on Tuesday night, although there has not been any official confirmation from the club on the matter.
