FLW have outlined who the highest paid Hatters are for this season
Luton Town have struggled on their return to the Championship so far, which has come as a surprise to many, given their relatively impressive Premier League exploits last term.
The Hatters were relegated from the top-flight last season, but held their own against some top sides and were better than both Sheffield United and Burnley across the campaign, yet the same can certainly not be said this time around.
Rob Edwards' side have been firmly rooted in the bottom-half of the second-tier table in the last few months, but their form has picked up somewhat in recent weeks, and their results have begun to match the clear talent littered throughout their squad.
Luton have never been a team that has too many high-profile players, and so their wage budget has been fairly small in years gone by, especially compared to some of their former Premier League counterparts.
With that said, FLW have looked at the five highest-paid Luton players for the 2024/25 season, with the help of Capology.
It must be taken into consideration that the data provided by Capology are estimations and not official figures.
Shandon Baptiste joined Luton in the summer window after his contract at Brentford had expired, but has probably not had the desired effect that he would have wanted at Kenilworth Road so far, due to numerous injury issues.
Central midfielder Baptiste is the joint-fifth best paid Hatters player as it stands, as he earns £25,000 per week, which equates to £1,300,000 across the season, according to Capology.
Capology also estimates that veteran goalkeeper Tim Krul earns the same amount as Baptiste, which, despite his back-up status, makes sense given his experience at Premier League level, and the fact he signed for the club when they were newly promoted to the top-flight.
Krul is now 36-years-old, but his contract length is undisclosed, yet since he earns a hefty £1.3m each year, Luton may well look to move him on at the end of the season to free up some valuable wage space.
Belgian international Thomas Kaminski is Rob Edwards' first-choice shot-stopper, and has been so since he also joined the club last summer ahead of their maiden Premier League voyage.
Kaminski's form has been relatively consistent since he joined Luton, and he is certainly good value for his £25,000 weekly wage, according to Capology's estimates.
Left wing-back Alfie Doughty has been a consistent standout since his arrival at Kenilworth Road from Stoke City two years ago, and his performances in the Premier League last term were enough to win him some serious top-flight suitors in the summer, but he has stayed at Luton for this season.
Doughty pledged his future to the Hatters in September by signing a new long-term deal, amid an injury-hit start to the season, and Capology have estimated that his weekly earnings took a huge jump up from £7,500 to £27,500, which works out at around £1.43m each year for the 25-year-old.
One of Luton's three joint-highest earners, attacker Jacob Brown has also had his fair share of injury issues since a move to Kenilworth Road from Stoke City, but looks to be coming into his own as one of boss Edwards' main men in recent months.
Brown reportedly signed a four-year contract at Kenilworth Road last summer, and his Hatters deal is claimed by Capology to be worth £30,000 each week, which works out at £1.56m in yearly earnings, and equates to £6.24m until his contract runs out in 2027.
Versatile midfielder Tahith Chong is another of the Hatters' top earners, with his previous time at Manchester United the likely main factor for his sizeable wage demands at just 24-years-old.
Chong also signed for Luton in the summer of 2023, after an impressive season at Birmingham City, and has become a go-to starter for Edwards in the last 18 months, with his estimated earnings of £30,000 per week definitely reflective of his impact on the team.
Zimbabwean international midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has also struggled with injury issues in his time at Town, but has returned to full fitness this season in the hope of becoming a regular in Edwards' side once again.
Nakamba boasts previous experience in the Champions League and the Europa League, as well as the Premier League with both Luton and former club Aston Villa, so it should come as little surprise to see him among the highest earners in LU4.
His weekly earnings of £30,000 are also seemingly the exact same as what he took home at Villa before his Hatters loan move was made permanent last summer, according to Capology's estimates.
