Hull were very much one of the surprise packages of last season, lasting the campaign and competing for a place in the top six.

Unfortunately, they fell short towards the end and missed out on a play-off spot, but their performances throughout the season seemingly caught the eye of others around them.

Greaves was a strong part of that success and has been key to the club in the last four seasons, since being promoted to the first team after his loan at Cheltenham Town.

The 23-year-old has had two very productive campaigns back-to-back, and it now appears as though his time at Hull could be about to come to an end as interest gathers pace.

With that said, here at Football League World, we have looked at the latest transfer news involving Greaves…

Ipswich Town medical for Jacob Greaves

It was reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Sunday that Jacob Greaves had been granted permission to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move to Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys are in talks with Hull over a joint deal for Greaves and his teammate Jaden Philogene, as reported by The Athletic last week.

Ipswich are said to have made a £35 million offer for the pair, and while a double deal is regarded as likely, it has yet to be agreed, with Philogene also having interest from Everton, Crystal Palace, and former club Aston Villa.

A deal has yet to be agreed between the two clubs for Greaves, but the defender has been granted permission to undergo a medical with the Premier League side in anticipation of things moving.

The 23-year-old was mightily impressive last season, as he was named in the 2023/24 Championship team of the season.

Wolves lurk with interest in Greaves

As well as interest from Ipswich, Hull’s Jacob Greaves is also wanted by Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It was reported last month that West Ham held an interest in signing Greaves, but given they have just added Max Kilman to their ranks, that interest may have moved on.

Obviously, now Ipswich look in pole position to sign Greaves in this transfer window, but they may not have a clear run at doing so, as it’s been reported by The Athletic that Wolves are also interested in the defender, having lost Kilman.

The report states that the club has kept tabs on the Hull City player, as Ipswich have made a concrete effort to sign the defender.

Jacob Greaves contract situation at Hull

Jacob Greaves came through the academy at Hull City, playing for the club’s under-18s before spending time on loan at Cheltenham Town.

The defender really impressed with Cheltenham, and once he returned to his parent club, he instantly became a firm fixture in the starting XI.

That has continued in the last four campaigns, with Greaves playing 177 times for the Tigers across League One and the Championship, as well as cup competitions.

Greaves signed a long-term contract at Hull in August 2022; it was a new four-year deal, and with no new contract being agreed since, it expires at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Hull do have the option to extend that by a further year, so the club is under no timescale pressure to sell the player in this transfer window.
